Muta’Ali – Emmy Nominated Director of HBO’s MoviePass MovieCrash

Muta’Ali  is a thoughtful, award-winning director whose work shines at the intersection of cultural transformation and cinematic craft. He has carved out a distinctive space in contemporary documentary storytelling—one rooted in purpose, legacy, and truth.

He recently received an Emmy nomination for HBO’s MoviePass, MovieCrash.

Also known for the feature documentary, Cassius X: Becoming Ali (Smithsonian Channel 2023); Muta’Ali’s keen ability to unearth deeper narratives within well-known headlines and historical figures is notable. This builds on the critical success of Yusuf Hawkins: Storm Over Brooklyn (HBO, 2020). He received an NAACP Image Award nomination for Best Director of a Documentary for the film. His Gracie Award-winning documentary short, Hear Her Voice (ABC 2021), brought national attention to maternal mortality affecting the Black community.

His television work includes producing on Soul Of A Nation, Juneteenth: Together We Triumph, and After Floyd: The Year That Shook The World. His work in entertainment journalism includes producing over 130 televised segments featuring luminaries like 50 Cent, Idris Elba, and Ice Cube—further showcasing his versatility across genres.

Muta’Ali is committed to storytelling grounded in “Love, Art & Activism” and champions these themes at speaking engagements and in the press.
